Advancing the next generation aviation workforce.
In September 2016, senior management at the William J. Hughes Technical Center established the Aviation Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (AvSTEM) program. The program is the result of a plan to bring all AvSTEM activities at the Technical Center under one initiative to ensure the necessary resources and processes are in place to support outreach. AvSTEM addresses the national concern of attracting and retaining students in STEM related disciplines including education and communications, by nurturing their interest through a variety of approaches and mediums through their academic career.
Diakon Solutions supports the AvSTEM Program Manager (PM) in coordinating, facilitating, and developing a unified program. This includes supporting the PM in leading the AvSTEM Council, assisting in recruitment events for federal and contractor employee ambassadors, and assisting in the development of material for human resources to distribute to new employees during onboarding.
